General Introduction
The Urban Forest of the Tres Centurias Complex is a newly developed green area created as part of the urban revitalization of the historic railway corridor. It is designed to serve as a green lung, ecological corridor, and community gathering space within the restored industrial heritage setting. For the meetings and events tourism sector (MICE), it provides a natural setting that complements events, wellness breaks, outdoor networking, and immersive experiences in green spaces integrated into a cultural environment.
Features and Components
- Size and vegetation: More than 800 trees of native and adapted species were planned, including jacarandas, ash trees, mesquites, oaks, bauhinia, weeping willows, among others.
- Land use and zoning: Pedestrian walkways, tree-lined paths, rest areas, urban furniture such as benches and lighting, as well as lookout and contemplation areas.
- Shade and microclimate: The forest acts as a thermal regulator, helping reduce the urban heat island effect and providing a comfortable environment for informal meetings and breaks.
- Connectivity within the complex: The forest connects with other venues throughout Tres Centurias, facilitating pedestrian routes between museums, restored workshops, auditoriums, and exhibition spaces.
- Integrated infrastructure: Irrigation systems, possibly using treated water, drainage, nighttime lighting, and lightly paved pathways to improve accessibility.
- Landscape integration: The design seeks to visually connect the forest with the restored railway architecture, creating symbolic contrasts between nature and industry.
Relevant and Institutional Information
- Development plans mention the planting of approximately 800 trees across an area of around 4 hectares within the Tres Centurias corridor.
- The Urban Forest is expected to include species such as jacarandas, ash trees, mesquites, oaks, weeping willows, and others.
- The forest is expected to help reduce local temperatures by up to 5°C by providing shade and absorbing solar radiation.
- It forms part of the master urban development project aimed at revitalizing the Tres Centurias corridor as a space for community gathering, culture, recreation, and tourism.
